Government Ayurveda Medical College and hospital is the only Government Ayurveda medical college in the state of Tamilnadu which was established in the year 2006.. It is situated in Nagercoil , Head quarters of Kanyakumari District.Nagercoil has railway junction and nearest airport is Thiruvanan-thapuram 65 kms away. Kanyakumari situated at the southern most of Indian sub-continent.
B.A.M.S (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery).
The college is recognized by Central National Commission for Indian system of Medicine (NCISM) which regulates Ayurvedic education in the country. It also determines the number of seats in the college for under-graduate course. The college follows the academic curriculums and guidelines established by CCIM/NCISM.
The college is permanently affiliated to TN MGR Medical University,Chennai,Tamilnadu . The University awards the degree to the successful students of the college.
Department of Rachana Sharir or Department of Human Anatomy is one of the pre-clinical departments that teach Anatomy in the1st professional of B.A.M.S. course. It is also studied at the post graduate and doctoral level. Study of the gross human anatomy is main focus at B.A.M.S. level wherein human anatomy is understood with the help of dissection of dead human body (cadaver). Ayurvedic concepts of Anatomy (Rachana Sharir) are also studied at this level, which involves primarily the Sharirasthan (chapter on human body) of Basic Ayurvedic texts of Sushrut Samhita, Charak Samhita and Ashtang Hridaya. It can be stated that Ayurvedic student has a better view of Human Anatomy than the modern counterpart.

Department of Kriya Sareera This departments deals with the physiological concepts of Ayurveda like Dosa, Dhatu, Mala ,Srotas etc along with modern knowledge of human Physiology. Activites: Practical and theoretical trainings to understand the Human physiology in both Ayurveda and Modern medical systems
This department teaches Basic principles of Ayurveda along with Sanskit language which is essential for learning Ayurveda. Padartha Vijnana and History,Sanskit,Astanga Hridayam, Charaka samhita poorvardham and Uttaraardham are taught by Department of Samhita and Siddantha
Agada tantra or toxicology is a branch of Ashtang Ayurveda, which includes the science of poisons and Vyahara Ayurveda deals with Medical legal aspects of Medicine.
This Department deals with Medicinal plants of Ayurvedic Classics, their identification, properties, action and therapeutic uses in accordance with fundamental Principles of Ayurveda
This department deals with formulations of Ayurvdic medicines from herbs,metals and minerals
This Departments deals with pathology and diagnostic approaches of Diseases in Ayurveda including labotory ,radiological and histopathological aspects.
Shalya tantra department deals with surgical disorders in Ayurveda where disease is beyond the scope of medical management
Panchakarma deals with Sodhana therapies(purification/Detoxification) for eliminating root causes of diseases for effectively arrest the recurrence of disease with treatments like Snehana, swedana, Vamana ,Virechana,Vasti,Nasya,Raktamokshanam.
Department of kayachikitsa is a specialised Department for General Medicine.
This Department deals with obstetrics and gynecological disorders.
The Department deals with diseases of children.
This department deals with Ear, Nose ,Throat and Eye diseases.
